Kolkata - loved, lived-in and lambasted -is a fount of creative inspiration. Lutyen's Delhi is soon to catch a glimpse into the heart and soul of the ageing, young-at-heart city through the lens of Leena Kejriwal. The Katha or tale of the city of old Kalikatha or today's kolkata: the city presided over by the fearsome Goddess Kali. Kolkata based creative photographer Leena presents the city as she has seen it through the years and as the years have treated its monuments and landmarks, its life and people. The indomitable spirit to live, that vibrates through its alleys and bylanes, the riverfront, the image-makers of Kumartoli and Kalighat is what Kalikatha hopes to catch... Blessed with artistic vision, Leena's prints have benefited from her formal training in the craft of photography at the studio of Girish Mistry, in Mumbai. Thereafter, she worked under the guidance of the redoubtable Raghu Rai at various workshops. Her skills have earned her a membership of the British Institute of Professional Photography (LBIPP) and of Photographers' Guild of India (PGI), which is a forum for the very best shutterbugs in our country. Leena's perceptive lens captures the essence of a composition. The results are refreshing and have found her work pride of place at The Hyatt Regency at Kolkata and Mumbai. Her passion for the city that she calls home won her the coveted honour of designing the book cover for Sahitya Akademi winner Alka Saraogi's Kalikatha Via Bypass. Soon after, Leena presented a series of art prints entitled Objet d'art 1-5 at Exhibit-A held by the Photographers' Guild of India in April 2002. One of her prints was among the top 10 selected from a forum of the best in India (in Mumbai) while The Times Journal of Photography showcased her work in its April 2001 issue. Supported by Fuji India, the exhibition will be on at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, from October 10 -14, 2003.
